Whether you’re out exploring or just relaxing at home, these handy strategies will help you stay refreshed and energized. Dive into our guide to discover how you can embrace the warmth without breaking a sweat!
Basic tips for this hot season!
- Stay hydrated: If you’re outside, make sure you’re prepared with an insulated bottle of water or keep extra water in your vehicle. But don’t worry if you forget to bring some – Prince George has you covered! With numerous public facilities, parks, and buildings, you can always find a place to stay hydrated and refreshed.
- Rest in the shade: Although getting a nice tan might be on your summer bucket list this year, it is very important to take frequent breaks in the shade to prevent burns, heat stroke, and exhaustion. Whether you’re in the park playing some frisbee or taking a stroll downtown, find time to sit under a tree or pop into a store to cool down!
- Wear sunscreen: The powerful rays from the sun don’t only make you sweat but it also often makes folks burn! This is more than trying to prevent a bad farmer’s tan, but also to prevent heat rash, burns, and painful irritation to your skin. So make sure to lather up!
- Never leave children or pets unattended in a hot vehicle: It is easy to underestimate the weather or the time it takes to do an errand, so when possible, leave children and pets at home, or bring them in with you.
- Cooling down fast in an emergency: If you or someone you know is suffering a heat stroke or heat exhaustion, knowing how to bring your body temperature down quickly is a vital skill. You can do this by pouring room temperature water on the back of the neck, the feet, or armpits, going somewhere with air conditioning and shade, drinking fluids, and resting immediately after.
- Stay equipped: If the heat won’t stop you from enjoying the outdoors, make sure you’re equipped with the right clothing and tools to stay safe! Opt for loose-fitting, light, and breathable attire, and have a manual or electric hand fan at your disposal. Don’t forget to wear a hat to shade your face, sunglasses, or even carry an umbrella. And, of course, always have a water bottle with you.
