Summer is the perfect time to explore Prince George’s lakes and waterways. Before heading out, check
the weather and water conditions, as wind can change quickly on larger lakes. Wear a properly fitted
personal flotation device (PFD), bring plenty of drinking water, sunscreen, and let someone know your
paddling plans if you’re heading out alone.

Top Places to SUP & Kayak in Prince George:
Nukko Lake
Just 20 minutes from Prince George, Nukko Lake is perfect for a relaxing paddle. With grassy and sandy
areas for a snack before or after your adventure, it has everything you need for a great day on the
water. Access is available from the community hall on Chief Lake Road or via the boat launch. Please
note that motorized boats are allowed, so stay aware of your surroundings.
Berman Lake
Located 45 km west of town, Berman Lake Regional Park is a great spot for all types of boats and
swimming. The park features a sheltered bay for paddling if the wind picks up or motorboats become
more frequent. There are two picnic areas—one with tree cover and a dock for launching canoes, and
another with a sandy beach and open lawn. Additional amenities include picnic tables, fire pits,
washrooms, and change houses. For an extended paddling adventure, you can navigate from Berman
Lake to Bednesti Lake via a connecting creek.
West Lake Provincial Park
Just 15 minutes west of Prince George (near College Heights), West Lake is a multi-use lake ideal for all
sorts of activities. It features a designated swimming area, along with sections for motorized and non-
motorized boating. Be mindful of these zones while paddling. The park includes a boat launch, day-use
areas with picnic tables, and outhouses. Come ready for adventure and enjoy the variety of activities
this lake has to offer!
Ferguson Lake
If you’re looking for a quiet nature reserve, Ferguson Lake is the place to be. Located 25 minutes north
of downtown, this scenic lake features a trail that loops around the shoreline, offering a mix of paddling,
fishing, and hiking opportunities. The nature reserve is equipped with outhouses, picnic areas, and
interpretive signage, as well as remains of an old homestead for exploration.
Ness Lake
One of the most popular lakes in the Prince George area, Ness Lake offers a vibrant setting for a full day
on the water. Located 30 minutes north of town, it’s surrounded by cabins, so weekends and warm days
can get busy. The lake is also great for swimming, making it the perfect place to cool off after a day of

Backwater Paddling
Backwater Paddling is dedicated to fostering paddling opportunities and encouraging new sports. They
offer beginner-to-advanced courses in canoeing, kayaking, and SUP, as well as custom-designed
programs to suit your needs.
Prince George Canoe and Kayak Club
This volunteer-run club puts passion into their programs, offering opportunities for both kids and adults.
Membership is required, but fees are kept as low as possible to ensure accessibility. They host “Try-It
Days” for kids to experience paddling for free with provided equipment. The club primarily operates out
of West Lake Provincial Park and also runs pool training sessions.
