History LGBTQ2+
Sunday November 19, 2017  |  1:00 PM - 3:30 AM
The Hub Space, 1299 3rd Avenue

Same-sex love and sexuality, gender queers, and transactivists have a long and proud history – much of which is not known. From ancient civilizations to long established cultures, through war and peace, through fear of punishment and death, lesbian, gay, two spirited, bisexual, transgender and gender queer peoples and cultures exist and flourish around the world and across time. What survives after many centuries of erasure, persecution, shame, suppression, and secrecy as the legacy for all is the courage and belief in yourself it takes, both in the past and now, to live true to who you are. Only in more recent decades has this hidden history been pursued and interwoven into more mainstream historical narratives. yet this history is more than just story. All of this proud history unites as foundation for the trans day of remembrance where today’s pioneers are navigating the killing fields of society’s prejudice. (adapted from an excerpt, Wikipedia)

Come and listen to our Guest Historian, Dr. Theresa Healy, share with us “Queer History” an illustrated history of the LGBT2TQII Community and Trans Day of Awareness
