COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS) UPDATE: SEE DETAILS
The Caledonia Ramblers are hosting a hike along the north shore of Purden Lake on Saturday, August 3.
It's rated easy-moderate with a distance of about 12 kilometres round trip and should take about six hours with lounging.
Most of the trail is in good shape, relatively flat and open with boardwalks over the wet areas and benches along the way. But gaiters and rainpaints will still be worthwhile if the bush is wet.
The last 500 metres of trail to the east beach is flagged but not yet cut and will require an easy bushwack.
There are multiple forest types along the trail - from mixed conifer to open birch with some hemlock and cedar. Wildlife seen over the years include water birds, eagles, ospreys, barred owls, bears, otters, and even a wolf.
If it's hot on Saturday, consider a swim.
Meet at the city hall parking lot 10 minutes before the 9 a.m. departure time. Carpool fee is $5.
