Caledonia Ramblers hike
Saturday August 3, 2019  |  9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

The Caledonia Ramblers are hosting a hike along the north shore of Purden Lake on Saturday, August 3.
It's rated easy-moderate with a distance of about 12 kilometres round trip and should take about six hours with lounging.
Most of the trail is in good shape, relatively flat and open with boardwalks over the wet areas and benches along the way. But gaiters and rainpaints will still be worthwhile if the bush is wet.
The last 500 metres of trail to the east beach is flagged but not yet cut and will require an easy bushwack.
There are multiple forest types along the trail - from mixed conifer to open birch with some hemlock and cedar. Wildlife seen over the years include water birds, eagles, ospreys, barred owls, bears, otters, and even a wolf.
If it's hot on Saturday, consider a swim.
Meet at the city hall parking lot 10 minutes before the 9 a.m. departure time. Carpool fee is $5.
For more information go to caledoniaramblers.ca.

Sonar Presents: Taz McNally
Saturday August 3, 2019  |  9:00 PM - 11:00 PM
Sonar Comedy and Night Club, 1466 3rd Ave

Come see two of Kelowna's top comics on this very special show headlined by Taz McNally and featuring Bonnie Esson! Taz McNally is local comedian who has been making waves. He has performed on Calgary's FunnyFest, the Kelowna Comedy Festival, and the Wine and Laughs Comedy Festival.

He juggles his busy comedy schedule, usually performing four nights a week, with his duties as a single dad. Taz has two kids, Ronin and Freya, who love that dad tells jokes. Taz says, “It's surprising how many people can identify with being a single parent. That sounds depressing. I just mean with kids....being a kid or having them.”

Or

“Taz McNally is a witty up and coming comic who has his own take on a wide variety of topics including parenting, sports fandom, dating, video games and partying. He has headlined across BC and has appeared in Calgary’s Funnyfest, The Cascade Comedy Festival, Shaw Cable’s Comedy in Fun! and The Okanagan Comedy Festival, and also performed as a featured comedian on stages across the country including, Handcuff Comedy in Calgary, Hamilton Yuk Yuk’s, and Mike Rita’s Stoner Sundays in Toronto.”

And

Bonnie Esson is the gem of the Kelowna Comedy scene. She is a trained theatre artist and improv player whose recent transition to stand up comedy has been well received, propelling her onto Kelowna's hottest shows. Her clever wit and brilliant improv are a hit with audiences across Canada.

Composting 101
Saturday August 10, 2019  |  2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
REAPS, 1950 Gorse Street

Composting is the ultimate in recycling. In what other endeavor can we take things meant for the garbage -- those banana peels, apple cores, fall leaves, weeds, and animal bedding -- and turn it into something that will literally transform our garden. Pretty amazing stuff! While there are some rules to follow when learning how to compost, rest assured that they're pretty basic, and that, in the end, no matter how many "mistakes" you make, compost just happens.

Recycling 101
Saturday August 10, 2019  |  1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
REAPS, 1950 Gorse Street

Recycling is very important as waste has a huge negative impact on the natural environment. Harmful chemicals and greenhouse gasses are released from rubbish in landfill sites. Recycling helps to reduce the pollution caused by waste.

Have questions? Confused what gets recycled and where?

Come to our 1 hour presentation to find homes for over 70 household items which can be diverted from the landfill.

Vermicomposting 101
Saturday August 10, 2019  |  3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
REAPS, 1950 Gorse Street

Vermicomposting is the process of using worms to convert kitchen waste into a rich soil supplement. With the help of some red wiggler worms, you can transform your vegetable waste into fertilizer for your plants. Vermicomposting is a great way to reduce the amount of waste sent to a landfill and the end product can offset or eliminate the amount of potting soil you buy for your garden.

Learn how to build, care and enjoy composting with red wigglers!

Great for indoors or outdoors during the spring and summer months.
