The Beauty of Northern BC - Exhibition Opening

Celebrating our first Artist in Residence for 2019 we bring you “The Beauty of Northern BC” – an exhibit that will display the beauty of our region through the eyes of photographer Darrin Rigo. Showcasing Northern BC’s landscapes, architecture, and people, come out to Omineca in the month of February to see Darrin’s shots that include Prince Rupert, Terrace, and Prince George and the long highways between that connect this region.

Darrin Rigo was born and raised in Northern BC. He grew up in Terrace, and moved to Prince George for University in 2009 and have been here ever since. He loves photography. He has been behind the lens of a camera in one way or another since he was 15 years old. Landscapes, people, products, you name it – He is happiest when he's shooting and editing.

Visit us during Open Studio Hours Tuesday and Fridays from 2-5pm as well as during scheduled events. Watch our webpage and social media pages for upcoming events, opportunities and monthly artists in residence.

Our Artist in Residence program is made possible through the generosity and support of the Emily Carr Institute -Living Labs, City of Prince George MyPG Grant and donors like you.

2019 Polar Bear Dip

Ness Lake Bible Camp

 Check in at 2:00 in the Welcome Center (log building in parking lot). At 2:30 we
will meet shortly in the gym to judge costumes and talk about safety when
dipping.
 January 1st, 2019 at 2:30
 Entry Fee is $25.00 (anyone who raises more than $25.00 in pledges will have
this fee waived. Prize for top pledge raiser)
 Free Polar Bear Dip T-shirts for first 40 Participants
 Costumes are optional (but encouraged, prizes for best costume!)
 Pledge forms and general information is available atwww.nesslakebiblecamp.com
 Money raised from this event will go towards the camper sponsorship fund which
makes camp possible for families who would otherwise not be able to afford it.
This year out goal is to send all the kids from the Harwin Community!
Every kid deserves to go to camp and we have always strived to make camp
accessible for all. One way we do that is by paying for part of the fees for families
that are not financially in a place to afford to send their kids.
 Pledges: Participants are encouraged to raise pledges. Cheques should be made
out to Ness Lake Bible Camp. Donations over $10 are tax deductible. The entry
fee is waived for anyone who raises $25 or more in pledges.
 Last year’s Polar Bear Dip raised approximately $7800.
 Spectators are encouraged and welcome. Hot chocolate and cinnamon buns for all!

In addition to snowshoes, participants are urged to bring daypacks carrying extra clothing, lunch and snacks and something hot to drink.
Meet at the city hall parking lot 10 minutes before the scheduled 11 a.m. departure time. Carpool fee is $2.

The Snowed In Comedy Tour has now grown to become the biggest comedy tour in Canada, playing in 65 cities this year coast to coast. Four international comedians come together to create one amazing show with each bringing a unique and hilarious take, providing something for everyone. 

The Comedians:

  • Debra DiGiovanni, a 3-time female Comedian of the Year, has appeared on Conan O’Brien, Video On Trial, Match Game Crave TV special, and Netflix.
  • Pete Zedlacher, a 5-time nominee of the Canadian Comedy Award for Best Male Stand-up and Sirius XM's nation-wide comedy competition earned him the title of Sirius XM's Top Comic 8 appearances at Montreal's Just For Laughs Festival Halifax and Winnipeg Comedy Festival.
  • Dan Quinn, a Winner of Canadian Competition at Just for Laughs Comedy special on the Comedy Network who opened for Rob Schneider and Russell Peters at the Best of Fest Moncton Comedy Festival TV Special on Check TV.
  • Paul Myrehaug, a $25,000 Great Canadian Laugh Off winner who appeared on CBC’s the Debators and Just For Laughs Comedy Now on CTV.

Construction Project Management

Participants will develop skills and knowledge of how to manage a construction project. Participants will gain an understanding of the project processes and constraints encountered by project managers and how to successfully manage a complex project.

At the end of the course participants will be able to:

• Understand the importance of project planning
• Understand the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBoK 5th Ed)
• Use the appropriate CCDC/CCA contract and/or Purchase Orders for the project
• Use risk management tools and mitigate for risk
• Understand the estimating process
• Understand the importance of scheduling and use appropriate scheduling tools
• Understand expectations management and adapt communication accordingly
• Understand the components of projects – labour, materials and overheads – and use of techniques to maximize job profitability and minimize costs
• Do post-mortem analysis after project completion
• Understand the impact and methodology of construction cost control
• Use of site and office project cost control methods
• Use Construction Industry Codes to analyse costs vs budget
• Adapt the project estimate to a project budget
• Understand how job costing fits within the overall accounting systems
• Understand Return on Investment (ROI) and how this impacts required project profit margins
• Understand the contract process from bidding to project close-out
• Use of job profit forecasting methods to integrate into company forecasting systems
• Understand the importance of cash flow projections for construction companies

Two days (16 hours) of lessons with instructors plus an online portion involving research, reading and answering questions (7-8 hours) that will be marked by the instructors.

To receive your CPD accredited certificate you must complete the online portion after the 2 day course.
