What better way to enjoy the fantastic spring weather than by checking out some great events! Here’s our event wrap up for the month of May in partnership with Move Up Prince George.
Northern FanCon (May 3-5): Northern FanCon returns for its fifth Anniversary! Go see the awesome selection of guests, vendors, artists, and cosplayers you have come to expect PLUS some special extras at the CN Centre. This year’s lineup includes the original Hulk, Lou Ferrigno, and Alan Tudyk from Star Wars and Firefly. To purchase tickets head to Ticketsnorth.ca.
Jack and the Bean (May 6-11): Presentation House Theatre is thrilled to present Linda A. Carson’s enthralling new spin on the much-loved children’s classic, Jack and the Beanstalk. This imaginative adaptation finds Jack surrounded by land that just won’t grow anything. Compelled to sell his beloved toys to feed his hungry family, Jack instead trades them for magic beans, from which a towering beanstalk grows. Jack climbs the beanstalk and is taken on an amazing journey filled with excitement and peril. Children, young and old, will delight in this simple, but highly engaging, environmental tale. West Coast Amusement – Prince George May Carnival (May 9-12): Based in British Columbia, West Coast Amusements is the largest Canadian midway operation in western Canada, and one of the few that remains family operated. This fun-filled carnival takes place at the Prince George Exhibition grounds, buy a wristband to access all the rides!
Rock of Ages (May 10): The mind-blowing, face melting, nothin’ but a good time, audience favorite Rock of Ages comes to the CN Centre in Prince George. This great show features the music of Styx, Poison, Twisted Sister, and Whitesnake among many others! This Tenth Anniversary production revisits the larger than life characters and exhilarating story that turned ROCK OF AGES into a global phenomenon! Tickets range from $29.50 to $89.50 depending on seats and are available at TicketsNorth.ca.
Prince George Bike Rave (May 11): That’s not a typo, it’s a Bike RAVE! Kaiten Mixed Martial Arts Academy and Atmosphere Entertainment, Visual Universe; are hosting this FREE community event. It’s designed as an opportunity to spend quality time with your family and friends. Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park is going to be lit up like you have never seen it before. Imagination and Creativity is the goal, so dress up with white or bright colours, find flashy things or lights for you and your bike. Show your style!
Mother’s Day (May 12): As always there are tons of great events happening in Prince George for Mother’s Day. Check out the events below for a few ideas on how you can celebrate with your mom!
88th Annual Prince George ELKS May Day Parade (May 18): The 88th Annual ELKS May Day Parade is BACK! Proudly organized by the Prince George ELKS Lodge 122 & the Prince George ELKS Community Hall. This family oriented, fun-filled parade gets underway at noon at the corner of 7th and Dominion Street.
Spring on the Homestead (May 19-20): Wave goodbye to winter and celebrate spring at Huble Homestead's two-day season opener! Watch or participate in heritage activities such as the May-pole dance, planting the garden, and making butter and ice cream. Reacquaint yourself with the historic site by taking a guided tour, and explore the buildings by taking part in a treasure hunt. Help them kick off celebrating 30 years of Huble Homestead, by checking out the launch of the new, year-long exhibit that talks about the opening of the park.
CrossRoads Street Festival (May 25): Come enjoy the free, family-friendly community events featuring displays, demos, clinics, and show and shines. There will be fun interactive activities to encourage kids and adults to discover and try different outdoor recreation opportunities. This portion of the day takes place from 10am until 3pm. The ticketed, evening event kicks off at 6pm and goes until midnight. Here you can experience fun, safe adult-oriented activities with fantastic live music, local craft beer, street food and interactive outdoor party games. Theatre NorthWest: Meet my sister!
Meet My Sister! is the final Theatre NorthWest production of the 2018/19 season and this World Premiere promises to be hysterical. In this new comedy sisters Stella and Blanche, one from northern BC and the other from northern Ontario, try to get their mom to come out of her locked home, which has been sold, so she can move to a senior’s residence she is supposed to be moving into that day. The sisters battle the house and each other before the surprise twist ending that will keep you laughing for days.

Always wanted to try yoga? Here’s your chance
Learn how to practice yoga or get back into it by signing up for Try-It!: Yoga, a four-week, beginner mini program being held on Wednesdays during April. At a cost of only $20 for four classes, this program is a bargain! You must be 18 years or older to participate and should bring a yoga mat if possible. Some accessible spots will be available through a partnership with the Northern Adapted Sports Association.

Grandma Used to Heckle Me Comedy Tour with Headliner Jeff Leeson
Nationally touring stand-up comedian Jeff Leeson is bringing his nationwide tour to the Prince George Playhouse for a night of live stand-up comedy that promises to be memorable. The Grandma Used to Heckle Me Comedy Tour is named after Jeff's most recent special that is currently being pitched to TV networks and streaming sites around the world. With an extremely impressive blend of long form improv and traditional stand-up comedy this is one show you do not want to miss!

Billie Zizi with Amy Blanding and Friends
Get your dancing shoes on and head to the Prince George Legion for a night of uplifting music. Billie Zizi is visiting Prince George from Edmonton to share her combination of the groove of classic soul with a flair for contemporary RnB melody. Prince George favourite Amy Blanding will also entertain the crowd with her powerful voice and profound stage presence. Her folk songs collect moments in the Northern wild and turn them into folk songs with a raw edge. Tickets are available at the door.

Family Easter fun at Pine Centre

Celebrate music from the 90’s
Are you a child of the 90s? If you answered yes or if you’re a big fan of 90’s music, you’ll want to grab tickets for CFUR’s Big Shiny Tunes Tribute. Hosted by CFUR Radio and Mad Loon Entertainment, this event will feature local musicians performing songs from the Big Shiny Tunes compilation CDs. This event is all-ages until 10:00 pm.

Enjoy a night of hypnosis where the audience becomes the show
Hypnotist REVEEN has been seen by over 6 million Canadians and he’s returning to Prince George for one night at Vanier Hall. The REVEEN legend continues as Tyrone Reveen (son of the original Reveen) takes his audience to the inner and outer reaches of their imagination with The Superconscious Experience. People from the audience become the stars in one of the wildest and funniest shows that has left millions of people crying with laughter all over the world.

Prince George Symphony Orchestra: Countryside Dreams
Get ready to enjoy an evening of classical music with the Prince George Symphony Orchestra’s presentation of Countryside Dreams. The concert will feature Sibelius’ Finlandia and Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8 followed by the performance of the Mozart Flute Concerto by Vancouver-based flautist Roderick Seed.

Challenge the cutbanks to fight cancer
Support a good cause and get a sweat on at the 4th Annual Climb for Cancer hosted by the Northern Lights Estate Winery. This event is suitable for all fitness levels as you can walk straight up the cutbanks or take the easier path that is beside the main path. All proceeds from this event will support the Canadian Cancer Society’s Kordyban Lodge, which is a home away from home for people undergoing cancer treatment in Prince George.

CHBA Northern BC Home and Garden Show
The Canadian Home Builders’ Northern BC Home & Garden Show is back for its 42nd appearance in Prince George. This event will feature hundreds of vendors and visitors from all over northern BC who can help you make your living space safe, healthy, well-maintained, and enjoyable. The Home & Garden Show is free to attend but be careful as you might walk away with some unexpected purchases!

As spring starts to show its first signs of life in Prince George, we’re excited to release the March event blog! This piece is a joint partnership between Move Up Prince George and Tourism Prince George.
The Miracle Theatre – Halfway There: This is a professional theatre production with actors hired from across Canada and is being brought to Prince George to rehearse and perform. This comedy is about friends for life and the surprises that arise when a new doctor comes to town. This year's beneficiary is the PG Community Foundation and all net proceeds will start the new "Children of Prince George Fund". Buy a ticket and have a great night out at this laugh filled comedy and help make Prince George a better place! Tickets are available at Books & Company or 250-563-6637.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels: Based on the 1988 slap-stick comedy starring Michael Caine and Steve Martin, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels follows the story of two men who con their way through a series of beautiful women on the French Riviera. This show features catchy songs, farcical humor, and a plot twist that will leave you saying "Sacré Bleu!" You're welcome to join on March 8th, 9th, 10th, 15th, 16th or 17th at Theatre Northwest to enjoy this musical comedy.
Booze & Build: A Maker Night for Adults: On March 8th, you can make, build, drink, and create at this entertaining evening just for adults. Sip on some wine or craft beer while you try your hand at 3D doodling. Explore the exhibitions, laser tattoo some bananas, and other one-of-a kind activities. It’s a night like no other!
CrossRoads Brewing Birthday Party: Happy Birthday to Prince George’s downtown craft brewery! They are celebrating their 2nd birthday on March 15th. What better way to enjoy yourself than heading down to George Street for a pint! There will be live music from local band Redwhyn at 7:30pm and a special birthday cask will be available. No tickets required.
2019 Brew Ski: The Caledonia Nordic Ski Club is teaming up with CrossRoads Brewing and Trench Brewing & Distillery to host the Brew-Ski on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th. Bring a friend or fly solo, dress in green if you want, and just have fun! One ticket includes 5 beer samples and BBQ, all following beer will be available in the lodge at $5 each, cash only. Must be 19+ to participate.
Kinky Boots: Kinky Boots tells the uplifting and heartwarming tale of Charlie Price, a young man reluctantly taking over his family’s struggling shoe factory and looking for a fresh idea. Charlie meets and finds inspiration in Lola, and together they discover that it takes a good friend to make a great pair. This entertaining show is at the CN Centre on March 22nd.
Colin James & Band: This Cariboo Rocks the North Warm Up event is taking place at the CN Centre on March 23rd. Colin James will be joined on stage with Barney Bentall and Marty O’Reilly. Tickets start at just $49. Plus, all ticket buyers will be entered in a draw to win a pair of weekend passes to Cariboo Rocks the North 2019, scheduled for August 9th to 11th at Exhibition Park.

It’s been a chilly start to February in Prince George but luckily there are plenty of events happening this month to keep you warm, whether you want to huddle indoors and enjoy live entertainment or get outside and be active.
Fun for everyone at Downtown Winterfest
Downtown Winterfest is back! For the third year in a row, Downtown PG has organized a day of outdoor fun for everyone. Bring your hockey stick to join in the road hockey game, watch snow sport demonstrations, try out the ice slide, jump on the Cottonwood Express train and go for a ride, and check out spectacular snow and ice carvings. Make sure to bring your appetite as there’ll be an outdoor food court and a ‘There is S’More Downtown’ contest. Make sure to try all of the s’mores and vote for your favourites! If you’re getting a bit chilly, duck inside the Prince George Conference and Civic Centre to shop at fabulous exhibitors and local merchants taking part in the Winter Market.

Do something different for Valentine’s Day
If you’re looking for something different to do on Valentine’s Day, there are plenty of options for couples AND singles. Grab your dancing shoes and head to the Prince George Legion for a Valentine’s Dinner and Dance, get your family or friends together or take your partner to The Lost Love Letters – A Valentine Adventure, explore your artistic side with a Valentine Paint Night at Bellissima inside Aiden’s Coffee, or head to CrossRoads for a Valentine’s Day Mix and Mingle involving mix and mingle bingo, all you can eat pizza, a complimentary drink, and plenty of fun and games.

Over the Line Snowball
Never heard of Over the Line, better known in Prince George as OTL? Then you’re in for a treat. This weekend-long tournament is basically softball played on the snow covered fields at Dillman’s Farm just west of Prince George. The weekend kicks off with a hospitality night before games are played all day Saturday and Sunday. Players have been known to dress up in colourful costumes and enjoy a few “beverages.” Registration for the event is over but you can still stop by to cheer on your favourite team. Experience Franco-Canadian culture at the Festival d’Hiver

The Festival d’Hiver is already underway but there’s still time to catch some of the action. Hosted every year by Le Cercle des Canadians Francais, this winter festival offers the best of Franco-Canadian culture. Events you can still enjoy include a meal for local seniors on February 7th at the Prince George Chateau at noon and Sugar Shack Day featuring brunch, old time fiddlers, live French folk band Les Rats d’Swampe, and maple syrup on February 9th at St. Mary’s Hall from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm. Watch the first play staged by Theatre NorthWest
Theatre NorthWest is revisiting its early years by bringing The Occupation of Heather Rose back to the stage. This was the first play staged by the theatre company 25 years ago. The play is described by Theatre NorthWest as beautiful, heartwarming and inspiring. It charts the growth in understanding of a naïve nurse working on the Snake Lake Reserve in Northern Ontario. Dress up for a night out with the Prince George Symphony
If you’re craving a night in and classical music, get your tickets for the German Masters presented by the Prince George Symphony Orchestra. This concert will begin with Bela Bartok’s Romanian Folk Dances and end with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. Canadian violinist Jasper Wood will play Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto between the opening and closing performances. Wood has performed with many of North America’s finest orchestras in Toronto, Montreal, Winnipeg, Buffalo and across Europe. He is also an Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia.

2019 World Para Nordic Skiing Championships
Prince George will host its first international sporting event at Otway from February 15 – 24, 2019. The World Para Nordic Skiing Championships are held every two years after the Paralympic Winter Games and represent the pinnacle of achievement for para Nordic athletes. Prince George will host approximately 140 athletes from 20 different Nations and over 200 coaches and officials, and expects thousands of visitors to attend over the duration of the World Championships. This event will bring with it a significant economic impact and a lasting legacy to the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club and to Prince George.

String Beans – Kinder Concert:Join the Prince George Symphony Orchestra at the PG Playhouse on January 12, 2019 to experience the narrated story of the life cycle of string beans. This show features the Prince George Symphony Orchestra strings and woodwind musicians, as well as a fair ballerina. This educational concert is aimed at children aged three to eight, but is a fun activity for the whole family.
Nordic Winter Festival: A day full of fun family activities! Trail passes are free, as well as a discount on ski and snowshoe lessons. Two ski waxing demos will be offered in the stadium. Hot dogs and hot chocolate will be available at the gravel pit by donation. This great event will be occurring from 9 am until 2:30 pm on January 13, 2019.
Coldsnap Winter Music Festival: Every year, musicians from around the world descend on Prince George for a full week of entertainment. From the next big thing in indie rock, jazz veterans, Celtic, traditional folk, hip-hop, and beyond, Coldsnap is a unique blend of talent and performers. Coldsnap is more than just a music festival, it’s also a series of free workshops aimed at making music accessible to every member of the community. Coldsnap is powered by volunteers and has earned a reputation as a fan and performer favourite, and is regularly cited as one of best reasons to visit northern BC. Coldsnap runs from January 25 to February 2, 2019 at various venues around the City.
Kiwanis AleFest:Kiwanis AleFest is the great Northern BC craft beer festival, held annually on the last weekend of January. The festival features two Brewmaster’s Dinners, three tasting sessions and an all weekend Cask Beer Experience. Started in 2015, the event has had tremendous support from the community and has grown steadily each year. Hosted in the heart of the city, all events occur in downtown Prince George. The Brewmaster's Dinners will be held at the Ramada Plaza and the Coast Inn of the North, the cask beer experience at select downtown establishments, and the tasting sessions are at the Two Rivers Gallery.
FMX World Tour:The NITRO FMX World Tour is an extreme action sport competition that tours the USA, Canada, Mexico and select European countries. They will be at the CN Centre in Prince George on January 26, 2019. FMX features professional riders competing in an intense competition, throwing out some of the most death defying tricks ever seen. Superman Seat Grabs, Cliff Hangers, Kiss of Death, Back Flips, and Super Back Flip combinations are just some of the tricks that will be used to fight for the NITRO FMX World Tour Championship Title!
STOMP – the International Sensation:STOMP, the international percussion sensation, makes its Northern BC premiere at the CN Centre on Monday, January 28, 2019. From its beginnings as a street performance in the UK, STOMP has grown into a world renowned show over the past 20 years, having performed in more than 50 countries and in front of more than 24 million people.
