Canada Day is almost here! To take in the festivities and celebrate our wonderful home, we’ve laid out some of our top favourite Canada Day weekend activities to put on your to-do list.
1. Celebrate Canada’s Birthday In Style
Join the biggest birthday party of the year at Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park. With over seven hours of live performances and entertainment, cultural booths and a wide array of ethnic cuisines, this family-friendly event is the perfect excuse to spend the whole day outside.
2. Hit The Trails
Escape the crowds and visit some of the local hiking trails around PG, but with so many around you’ll have a hard time choosing just one. Consider visiting the multiple lakes at Eskers Provincial Park, or scramble up to the top of Teapot Mountain for a spectacular view. What some more inspiration? Check out our hiking recommendations here: https://tourismpg.com/activities/parks-and-trails
3. Go Old-School With Dominion Day At Huble Homestead
Take a step back into the past, and enjoy heritage demonstrations and festivities as pioneers would have marked the occasion over a hundred years ago - with old-fashioned games, races, eating contests and a special Canadian treasure hunt! Dominion Day birthday cake will be served at several different times throughout the day, and you can take part in heritage demonstrations like making butter and ice cream.
4. Say Happy Birthday With A Toast
Come take a free tour of Northern Lights Estate Winery, BC’s northernmost winery. Tours include a behind the scenes look at the cellar and informative guided walk through the orchard. All tours conclude in the tasting room, where you can cheers to Canada’s big day before continuing into the bistro for dinner or a snack.
5. Gallop Into The Sunset
Enjoy a horseback riding tour at El Shaddai Ranch, located just south of the city, and take in the local scenery and wildlife from the unique perspective of the saddle. The sunset ride from 7pm to 9pm is sure to please the senses and relax the soul! Bookings required.
6. Escape The Ordinary
Or stick to the streets and challenge your mind at Exit PG. See if you and your companions can solve all the clues to free yourselves from the selection of intriguing puzzle rooms. Bookings required.
7. Finish The Day With A Bang
At 11pm sharp on July 1st, fireworks will ignite from Connaught Hill to wrap up the weekend and Canada Day celebrations. There are tons of unique viewing sites across the city, so if you’re not sure where to go, Canada Games Plaza has always been one of our favourite locations to see them.
