Feature Films and Thrillers
Dreamcatcher (2003)
Based on Stephen King’s novel, Dreamcatcher follows four friends whose winter trip
turns into a fight against an extraterrestrial threat. The forests, snowy roads and wilderness around Prince George were used to represent the isolated Maine setting. The exact filming spots are unclear, so the map shows the
general area.
Reindeer Games (2000)
This crime thriller follows a former prisoner who takes on another man’s identity and
becomes involved in a casino robbery. The former Prince George jail was used for prison scenes, while the Hart Community Centre became the fictional Tomahawk Casino. Other filming locations included a hotel along the Hart Highway and the College Heights Plaza area near TD Bank.
Double Jeopardy (1999)
Double Jeopardy follows a woman who is wrongfully convicted of murdering her
husband and later discovers that he is still alive. Prince George highways, rural roads and surrounding landscapes were used for driving and outdoor scenes. Exact road locations are not clearly documented.
Hello Destroyer (2016)
This Canadian drama follows a junior hockey player whose life changes after a violent
incident during a game. The CN Centre was used for hockey and arena scenes. Kawano Farms was used for scenes at the main character’s workplace, while a rural ranch property provided the film’s open and isolated landscape.
Breakthrough
Set during the Second World War, Breakthrough follows soldiers fighting during the
Battle of the Ardennes. Open fields, winter landscapes and wilderness properties around Prince George were
used to represent the European battlefield.
Within the Grip (2021)
This psychological horror film follows two sisters facing a dangerous and controlling
force. Residential properties and streets across Prince George were used throughout the film. Many driving scenes were filmed around Fourth and Fifth avenues downtown.
Conquest
Conquest is a six-minute science-fiction short produced by Barker Street Cinema. It was filmed almost entirely inside the CN Centre over three days during Northern FanCon.
Restrikted
Restrikted is a locally filmed science-fiction thriller. Prince George alleyways, industrial areas and the Prince George Playhouse were used as filming locations.
Christmas and Romance Films
A Great North Christmas (2021)
This holiday romance follows an overworked woman from Los Angeles who travels to Prince George for a Christmas break. Filming locations included Otway Nordic Centre, Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park, Cottonwood Island Nature Park, the Twisted Cork, Homework and a private property on Cranbrook Hill. The Twisted Cork was used as a hotel entrance, while Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park became the Christmas grotto.
Meeting Mr. Christmas (2022)
This Christmas romance follows a travel blogger who arrives in a small town planning to expose its popular “Mr. Christmas.” The Makerie Craft and Coffee Bar (now The Fitness Collective), the Twisted Cork, Third Avenue downtown and Hart Ski Hill were used in the film.
The Way to the Heart (2022)
This romance follows a successful chef who returns home after losing her inspiration and reconnects with her family and childhood friend. Locations included the Prince George Civic Centre, Shane Lake at Forests for the World, Cranbrook Hill, Pidherny, Pineview, Pinedale Auto Wreckers and the former Noah’s Ark Adventureland site. Shane Lake was used for dock and canoe scenes, while Pinedale Auto Wreckers became the workplace of the main character’s father.
Television and Web Series
The Amazing Race Canada
The Prince George episode of The Amazing Race Canada sent contestants through several well-known local landmarks. Locations included Mr. PG, UNBC, the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre, Prince George Aquatic Centre, Connaught Hill Park and the Central BC Railway and Forestry Museum.
Small Town Long Shots
This locally produced web series looks at filmmaking and production opportunities in smaller communities. It was filmed inside independent downtown businesses and local production spaces, although the exact businesses are not clearly identified.
Cleaner on Call (2026)
This locally produced project follows a hospital cleaner and is based on real experiences shared by producer Jimmy May. Filming took place in corridors at the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia, Deb’s Café and the CN Centre.
Hypnonaut
Hypnonaut is a local science-fiction horror film about sleep research and a disturbing experiment. UNBC was used for the fictional Sleep Institute. Other filming locations included the College of New Caledonia, Bon Voyage Inn, Cranbrook Hill and Cottonwood Island Nature Park. Two rented buildings were also converted into laboratory and office sets.
Finding Nowhere (2026)
This adventure series follows three cousins from Prince George as they reconnect through wilderness activities, traditions and family relationships. The series was filmed across northern British Columbia. The Open Door Café was one of the identified Prince George locations.
