I was born and raised in Prince George and, with the exception of living in the Lower Mainland for four years to attend university, I have lived here all my life and am currently raising my son here. I am passionate about downhill skiing, snowshoeing, mountain biking, fishing, walking, cooking, trying new foods, spending time with family and friends, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and trying to be a better gardener.
Working for Tourism Prince George has given me the opportunity to learn more about the hidden gems that our city has to offer. I am also discovering new things that I, as a local, didn't even know existed.
It gives me great joy to take on PG with my family, friends, and, on certain days, even alone.
My perfect day in Prince George starts bright and early in the morning after a fresh dump of snow. It is a beautiful sunny day in Prince George with a temperature of -10°C. We make the two hour drive to Powder King Mountain Resort where my husband will spend the day enjoying the knee-deep fresh powder while my teenaged son and I ski the groomed runs (with a few centimetres of light snow -just enough to tell our friends that we skied powder). We break for lunch and enjoy one of the great menu options at the hill cafe and then ski the rest of the day.
Once we arrive back in Prince George we unpack our gear, change, and enjoy a nice dinner at The Copper Pig, where some family favourites include pulled pork sliders, loaded mac and cheese, and of course a wide selection of BC craft beers and wine, including fruit wines from Northern Lights Estate Winery.
Feeling a little burned out from a day on the slopes we proceed to the CN Centre to watch a Prince George Cougars hockey game. After a victory over the Victoria Royals, its back home to enjoy the clear, crisp winter evening as we soak our tired muscles in the hot tub.
My favourite thing about Prince George is having everything at my fingertips; a place where in minutes I can be at a local ski hill, trail, or serene lake where I can drop my fishing line to catch something that will hopefully turn into a wonderful culinary experience later in the evening.
