Prince George, BC- On January 14th, Canadians across the country will be celebrating the third annual CIBC National Ski Day. The CIBC National Ski Day has 17 participating resorts across the country taking part in this all-Canadian event.
From January 12th to 14th, Tabor Mountain Ski Resort in Prince George will be the only resort in Canada hosting a NorAm Cup Ski Cross event on National Ski Day. To celebrate the occasion, they will also be offering 50% off lift tickets.
Tabor is no stranger to hosting this high-performance event, as it gained popularity with its innovative course design during the 2015 Canada Winter Games. Since then, the resort has hosted nearly a dozen NorAm events and was the first to bring events of this caliber to BC.
“We are excited to be the first and only resort to host a NorAm Cup on National Ski Day and to be working with Alpine Canada to promote Ski Cross nationwide,” said Mitch Thibault from his groomer while building the track for this week’s NorAm. “Ski Cross is a new sport that is on the rise and Tabor Mountain is committed to future development of the sport and its athletes.”
“Events like this encourage visitation to our city and generate a lot of economic impact,” says Tourism Prince George CEO, Erica Hummel. “The 2015 Canada Winter Games proved Tabor Mountain to be a world class venue. We hope to see interest in Tabor continue to build and eventually see it become an international training facility.”
The three-day event will feature over 100 competitors and take place entirely on Eta’s Course with the rest of the mountain open to the public. Spectators are encouraged to come out and cheer on the athletes. It is free to walk up and watch the excitement. Qualifiers begin at 11:00am and races begin at 1:00pm on January 12th through 14th.
