Composting is the ultimate in recycling. In what other endeavor can we take things meant for the garbage -- those banana peels, apple cores, fall leaves, weeds, and animal bedding -- and turn it into something that will literally transform our garden. Pretty amazing stuff! While there are some rules to follow when learning how to compost, rest assured that they're pretty basic, and that, in the end, no matter how many "mistakes" you make, compost just happens.

Red Hot Hayseeds
Thursday July 26, 2018  |  8:30 PM - 10:30 PM
Nancy O's Restaurant, 1261 3rd Avenue

Red Hot Hayseeds deliver breezy, cool melodies and fierce, hot musicianship that would send ol' Dorothy from Kansas to Oz and back again with a serious case of head-turning whiplash. Their raucous mix of western swing, bluegrass, country, and the spirit of Bob Wills will have you cutting a rug faster than you can say “Aaaaa-ha”.

Ghostly Hounds and Old Time Honey
Thursday August 2, 2018  |  8:00 PM - 12:00 AM
Nancy O's Restaurant , 1261 3rd Avenue

Montreal-based folk acts Ghostly Hounds and Old Time Honey are taking their songs on the road this summer.

Ghostly Hounds combines strings, horns and powerful vocals to create a dark, jazzy sound. Currently based out of Montréal and often on the road, the band's members hail from British Columbia, Ontario, Québec, and Massachusetts. Ghostly Hounds self-produced their debut demos in November 2015, only a month after beginning to play together. They have toured Canada coast to coast, playing well over 100 shows from PEI to Vancouver Island. On June 5th, 2017 Ghostly Hounds released their debut full length album "Creature".

Old Time Honey - From the vibrant streets of Montreal to the big top circus, Old Time Honey seamlessly blend the sounds of old time, tin pan alley, and cabaret to create a very festive atmosphere with a theatrical touch. Played on hand made a washboard, banjo, piano, fiddle, upright bass, and tied together with hauntingly memorable vocal harmonies, these performers are as much fun to watch as to listen to!

$7 at the door.

This a-peel-ing event celebrates the mighty spud, a vegetable the Huble family once grew by the acre!

Over one hundred years ago, on the banks of the Fraser River, Annie Huble grew acres and acres of potatoes which she sold to travelers passing through the area. Today that tradition continues at Huble Homestead, where you can learn all about the heirloom potato varieties grown on site, see the garden where they were produced, and purchase your own to sample at home!

Venture out to Huble Homestead, where the spud reigns supreme! We’ve spent the summer growing different varieties of heirloom potatoes, offering you the perfect opportunity to learn more about them, as well as see, touch, and perhaps buy some!

Revert back to your childhood by taking part in potato sack races, Hot Potato, or the potato and spoon race, get creative with potato stamps, and show the crowd how it’s done in the potato peeling contest. Kick back, relax on the grass or in the shade, and enjoy the line-up of spud-tacular musicians, a special starchy lunch menu, and guided tours on what is guaranteed to be a totally tub(er)ular event!

Huble Homestead Historic Site is a 30 minute drive north of Prince George, BC. Leave the city behind, and make your way up Highway 97, before turning off on Mitchell Road to continue another 6 kilometres down a well-maintained dirt road.

Homicide on the Homestead: A Murder Mystery - registration required
Sunday September 16, 2018  |  12:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Huble Homestead Historic Site, 15000 Mitchell Road

The perfect event for murder mystery enthusiasts interested in history and costumes!

If you couldn’t make it in June, this is your second chance to take part in an old-fashioned murder mystery! Pre-register to secure your spot in an afternoon of murder and intrigue, where you’ll take on a role from the past and solve the crime with your fellow participants!

Registrants will receive an official invitation, character assignment, and costume ideas for an event that will take them back in time to 1940s Prince George. On the event day, players arrive in period costume, receive their objectives for the game, and mingle while snacking on era-appropriate canapes as they work to catch the criminal!

Prizes are awarded for best costume, best performance, and the most money. If you correctly identify the killer you won’t leave empty handed – the same rule applies if the murderer gets away with their dastardly deed! No acting experience required, just a willingness to embrace your role! Registration will open in August.
