Adult Speaker Series: Fungal Bonanza!
Join Dr. Hughes Massicotte and Dr. Keith Egger for two 30 minute presentations: Exploring fungal resources in Northern BC (Dr. Massicotte) and Fires and Fungi (Dr. Egger). This event is free to the public and hosted in our atrium.
Dr. Massicotte and Dr. Egger invite you to bring your own backyard mushroom samples for identification and discussion after the presentations.
Doors open at 6:45pm and the presentations begin at 7pm.
Dr. Hughes Massicotte, Professor of Forest Ecology and Management at UNBC Dr. Massicotte's research interests include the structure and biodiversity of mycorrhizae, tree and rhizosphere biology, and forest mycology. He has published extensively in a number of international scientific journals.
Dr. Keith Egger, Professor of Ecosystem Science and Management at UNBC Dr. Egger's research interests are focused on the molecular ecology and functional diversity of microbial communities. He is currently involved in three major research projects: 1) Impacts of global warming on mycorrhizal fungal communities and N-cycling bacterial communities in the Canadian High Arctic; 2) Impacts of fire on re-establishment and regeneration of N-cycling bacterial communities of Douglas-fir in the southern Interior of British Columbia; and 3) Re-establishment and regeneration of mycorrhizal and N-cycling bacterial communities of lodgepole Pine following Mountain Pine Beetle attack in the central Interior of British Columbia.
