Theatre Northwest: Hedda Noir
Sunday March 4, 2018
Theatre Northwest, #36-556 North Nechako Rd

Tuesday-Saturday performances begin at 8pm. Matinees on Saturday and Sunday begin at 2:00pm.

One of theatre history’s greatest plays Hedda noir tells the story of a beautiful daughter of the late General Gabler, who returns from her honeymoon to confront the boredom and banality of married life in a world where her strength as a woman is not socially acceptable. When the re-appearance of an old flame of hers threatens her husband’s career prospects, Hedda, too proud to lose the only power she believes she can still wield, sets in motion a tragic series of events that builds to a climactic finish. In this new adaptation set in 1938 and with an exciting original design sourced from the Film Noir genre of that period this production of a playwright considered the greatest in history second to only to Shakespeare is a must see for any theatre goer.

Thursday March 8, 2018  |  10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Teleconference

March 8 | 10am to 11am | FREE

Celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) with three women who are on a mission to achieve gender equality in BC!

On March 8, Women’s Enterprise Centre is hosting a timely dialogue unpacking what feminism means in 2018 and the status of gender equality in BC today. We want to unite all regions of our province to rally for progress as part of the push for gender equality around the world.

Last year, ‘feminism’ was declared Word of the Year by Merriam-Webster. And this year, the Canadian theme for IWD is #MyFeminism. Our panelists will explore this hot topic in an accessible dialogue that will educate and inspire you to take action.

Fiona Macfarlane is EY’s Chief Inclusiveness Officer, an external role where she spreads the message about how diversity and inclusion in the workforce are important for the health of all businesses. Jill Earthy and Lois Nahirney are two advocates who have tirelessly led the WE FOR SHE movement in BC since it started in 2014.

You’ll learn the four P’s of parity so you can improve your own community:

- Problem – The gender gap and some stats that may surprise you
- Progress – Our achievements in BC as a leader in gender equality
- Plan – Actions you can take in your own life, business and community
- Praise – Examples of successful diversity programs and what you can learn from them

Join this free Equality Matters dialogue by calling in from anywhere in BC and invite a friend. Men are welcome – everyone needs to be part of the conversation!

Panelists:
- Fiona Macfarlane, Chief Inclusiveness Officer, Managing Partner, BC, Ernst & Young LLP
- Jill Earthy, WE FOR SHE Co-Chair, Chief Growth Officer, FrontFundr
- Lois Nahirney, WE FOR SHE Co-Chair, President & CEO, dnaPower Inc.

Favourite Press:
Stuart Derdeyn, Vancouver Province
"High-powered acoustic dance music aptly describes the bohemian beat. It's a sound that works in clubs, parties, big festivals -- you name it."

Kevin Potvin, Republic of East Vancouver
"Gave me the impression of a big modern inner-city version of the traditional hoedown in the neighbours barn kind of night. I felt something like what I imagine farmers felt when they hung up their overalls for the week and hustled down to the crossroads for a little long-awaited good ol' jumping around to shake out all the kinks of field work"

Jeanie Keogh, BC Musician Magazine
"Fit to compete with the cast of Moulin Rouge with their zany costumes, Blackberry Wood seems ready to strike up a burlesque hoedown just about anywhere you plunk them down"

Favourite testimonials from Festivals:
Clayton Brander, Director, Sunshine Music Festival
“Blackberry Wood’s energy was as amazing as it was infectious. Their wild costumes, fantastic music, and incredible stage presence got everyone in the audience up and dancing through their set – start to finish. Based on their reputation I expected a lot, and they definitely lived up to it. I couldn’t be more pleased with having booked them.”

Shara Gustafson, Director, Robson Valley Music Festival
" Blackberry Wood' s frantic energy & love of the stage spread a contagious frenzy throughout our Saturday night festival audience! "

Eric Epstein, Artistic Director, Frostbite Music Festival
"When I first chanced upon Blackberry Wood playing at Café Deux Soleils in Vancouver, I felt like I had stumbled onto the Yukon party spirit, kicking it old-time on the west coast. I wanted to bring them to Frostbite at once, and I grabbed my first opportunity to do just that. They exceeded my expectations by existing as their own festival: a traveling band of gypsy-party musicians who bring the spirit of hokum to life with original tunes as well as with some brilliantly chosen, stunningly unexpected covers. Each show is unique. I adore them."

REAPS Annual General Meeting

Year in Review, Election of Board and Guest Speaker.

Jon Salter, PhD
elementsLab, School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture
University of British Columbia presents: Hammers and Nails: Strategies for Addressing Climate Change in BC Communities

Prince George’s built environment is directly responsible for approximately 33% of the city’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. However, the real impact of the built environment is much larger then that, when you consider that transportation choices and emissions are also strongly influenced by the configuration of our communities. The Provincial Government has set targets for municipalities to reduce their GHG emissions by 80% (from 2007 levels) by 2050, and cities such as Victoria and Vancouver are developing even more aggressive targets. This talk will discuss strategies for reducing energy use and GHG emissions in the built environment, with a focus on strategies that apply to Prince George, and strategies that individual citizens and community groups can influence. The talk will conclude with a brief introduction to research being conducted as part of the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions’ Energy Efficiency in the Built Environment Project, that is investigating energy and emissions futures for BC communities.
