Blue Spruce Trail Race
Sunday July 9, 2017  |  8:30 AM - 10:30 AM
Forests for the World main parking lot, Kueng Road

The Blue Spruce trail race is a five and ten kilometre course that heads out from Forests for the World onto the beautiful Blue Spruce trail, and then back into Forests for the World. Overall, the two courses are very rolling with lots of little ups and downs, but nothing as big as the other two trail races in Prince George.

As the Blue Spruce is a favourite trail for many runners in town, it was only a matter of time until someone organized a race on it!

Kids Fun Run starts at 9:15am.
5km or 10km routes available.

Prince George Golf & Curling Club, 2601 Recplace Drive

The PGA of British Columbia, in partnership with the Vancouver Canucks, is proud to bring Canucks Junior Golf Week presented by Odlum Brown Limited to the Prince George Golf & Curling Club for the first time this summer!
Children aged 5-18 years of age will have fun learning the game of golf from certified PGA of British Columbia-instructed golf camps.

The cost for a one-day camp during Canucks Junior Golf Week is only $20 (+GST), which includes equipment rental (if required), facility fees, an item of apparel featuring the Vancouver Canucks logo and certified golf instruction. The length of each camp will vary by facility, the number of attendees and the general age of the participants, but camps would be estimated to be approximately two hours in length.
Registration deadline is June 22 -- Sign up now and see more information at www.canucks.com/golfweek

Dinosaurs of the Lost Continent
Sunday July 9, 2017  |  1:00 PM - 2:30 PM
The Exploration Place, 333 Becott Place

Dr. Scott the Paleontologist, host of the hit PBS KIDS series Dinosaur Train, is coming to The Exploration Place for a free kid-friendly presentation, Dinosaurs of the Lost Continent!

Cost: FREE
Seating: First come first serve (max. capacity for this event is 120)
Please note regular admission rates apply to enter the galleries.

Speaker: Dr. Scott Sampson (CEO of Science World, paleontologist, author and also known as Dr. Scott the Paleontologist,” host of the hit PBS KIDS series, Dinosaur Train

For more than a century, paleontologists have been collecting abundant, often spectacular dinosaur fossils from the Western Interior of North America, with the bulk of these remains found in rocks dating to the final stages of the Cretaceous Period. Only recently have we learned that most of these dinosaurs—among them horned, duck-billed, dome-headed, and armored plant-eaters, as well as giant tyrannosaur meat-eaters and smaller “raptor-like” predators—existed on a “lost continent,” today referred to as “Laramidia.” About 96 million years ago, exceptionally high sea levels flooded central North America, resulting in a north-south oriented seaway extending from the Arctic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico. This shallow sea isolated life-forms on the eastern and western landmasses for most the next 26 million years. We know little of what happened on the eastern landmass, but its western counterpart, Laramidia, witnessed a tremendous florescence of dinosaurs and other Cretaceous life forms. Surprisingly, despite the small size of Laramidia (less than one-quarter the size of present day North America) and giant sizes of many of the dinosaurs, different species co-existed in the northern and southern regions, at least during certain intervals. The strongest evidence of these isolated dinosaur “provinces” comes from Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, southern Utah, which has recently revealed a previously unknown assemblage of dinosaurs. How were so many giant animals able to co-exist on such a diminutive landmass? Why were most of these dinosaurs adorned with bizarre bony features such as horns, crests, domes, or spikes? What lessons do these ancient fossils have for humans living on a warming planet? Scott Sampson, President & CEO of Science World British Columbia—but better known as “Dr. Scott the Paleontologist,” host of the hit PBS KIDS series, Dinosaur Train—will address these questions and more. A book signing will follow.
