About Tourism Prince George
Tourism Prince George Society operates as the destination marketing/management organization within the city of Prince George. Our team works closely with our local tourism partners to develop innovative campaigns that will drive visitation to Prince George.
Contract: 1-year maternity leave cover
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this strategic position is directly responsible for coordinating the sport tourism initiatives for Tourism Prince George and ensuring Prince George successfully attracts and hosts sport events and meetings which are consistent with the goals of the Sport Tourism Strategy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develops strategic partnerships and relationships and liaises with various community, regional, provincial, and national sport organizations, hospitality businesses, sport facilities and user groups, and sponsors to support sport event initiatives within Prince George
Acts as the key contact for stakeholders, responds to requests and inquiries, directs inquiries to the appropriate resources and makes industry connections as appropriate
Actively collects information and relevant updates pertaining to sport tourism industry trends, developments, research, funding, events and other information to be able to respond to community inquiries
Identifies and pursues leads, securing new sport related events in Prince George
Attends sports related conferences, tradeshows, and meetings to promote Prince George as a sport hosing destination
Program Development, Coordination, Promotion, Communications & Implementation
Delivers the objectives in Tourism Prince George’s Strategic Plan including development of a work plan, identification of short and long-term objectives and action plans, timelines, budgets, deliverables, and performance measurement indicators
Plans and develops a series of sport hosting community resources and promotes these resources to community stakeholders
Manages a database of available sport events and prepares or assists in the preparation of bids
Develops and delivers verbal and written presentations to clients and stakeholders
Ensures quality and accuracy of sport tourism content on the Tourism Prince George website
Prepares monthly reports and presentations as required
Tracks economic impact of sporting events via “STEAM” templates developed by the Canadian Sport Tourism Association (CSTA)
Ensures sport tourism initiatives remain relevant in Prince George and continues to assist community stakeholders with their sport tourism needs
Post-secondary education in sport management, marketing, communications, or a related field
3+ progressive experience in sport event management, tourism, sponsorship, marketing and/or public relations
Demonstrated understanding of the relationship between tourism and sports at a regional, provincial and national level including knowledge of funding and grant processes of same
Knowledge of local clubs and associations
Experience working with event organizers, planners, and associations
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication, organizational and leadership skills
Basic understanding of website updates and maintenance
Comfortable using a variety of social media tools
Strong and consistent ability to prioritize activities within specific time guideline and to handle multiple responsibilities within a specific time frame
Demonstrated ability to work with cross functional teams
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Desire to exemplify outstanding customer service
Ability to travel and occasionally work weekends and evenings
Frequent (overnight) travel required for trade shows, sales trips and other industry events
Some use of personal vehicle
Ability to lift 50 lbs
Knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite considered an asset
Negotiable based on experience (37.5 hour per week)
